My Summer 2011!

We must spend only 10 days at school and the summer is getting closer, so we must think about our plans!

I thought a way to begin a wonderful summer. So, two months ago I made the ticket to go to London, so that I could see my brother that lives there: I’m leaving from the 17 of June to the 22 of June from Alghero and I’m going with my cousin because, her too, she wants to visit the beautiful capital of England! I would go to the Hard Rock Café and other places very famous and important like
"Buckingham Palace" or the "Big Ban". I think that it will be a wonderful experience also because for me it will be the first time that I will go to London!

When I’m going to come back, I’m going to stay a week in my house in Museddu with some friends: so we could be in peace without the interruption of anyone!!
So I want to utilize the month of June to have a good time and also to stay with my friend Benedetta that will go to Thailand for a year.
In the month of July I want to go to the different parties of the villages: it’s since September that I don’t go out with my friends and I would that this summer is fantastic with a lot of amusing!

The month of August will not be wonderful as the last years because one of my best friend is going to United States of America (her too with the AFS Intercultural programs) and I will spend my “last” time with her and certainly there will be very sad moments! :(
In the rest of my summer I will go to the beach and I will think about the liberty!

GIOVANNA

The summer that will change my life!!!

These are the last 10 days of school and finally the summer is coming!

I can't wait for the 10 of June, this is the date that will make me a free person! I will be free from study, school, stress, and tiredness. I will can finally to relax and I will can enjoy the last few months that I'll spend in Italy.

YES!!!

This is the summer that will change my life !

In fact, just this summer I'm going to leave for an adventure long a year :) I still can’t exactly plan my holidays, because even if I'm going to leave to the United States in August, I don't yet know the state (which could be any one of 50 states, which are very different from each other about the climate and the natural environment!) and also I don't know the family that is going to host me, and so its habits. I still can’t imagine my future daily life in another continent, another world where the language, habits and culture are very different from mine!

But I'm sure of one thing, I'm looking forward to starting this wonderful experience! I'm ready :)

But before my departure, I want to enjoy my Sardinia, my friends and my family!
I'm going to spend these three months in my house on the beach with my sister and my parents! Between the sand and the crystal clear water of our sea! I love walking on the sand in the early morning under the warm sun, but also at night under the starry sky, I also like to swim and tan :)

I want to spend so much time with my best friends! Many of them are going to leave this summer... for example, Benedetta is going to Thailand, Angelica to Modena, Francesca to Germany, Giovanna to England, and Rossana to Ireland... but I'm sure that we'll find the time to spend some wonderful moments together!

For this summer I plan to do many things! And so I hope to be able to do everything! But I think that this  holiday will be unforgettable and fantastic!

(: GIULIA :)

Modern communications: positive or negative?

Today the world is governed by technology and in particularly by different types of communications: we know that this thing has positive and negative aspects.
In fact I think that internet for example is a good way to communicate with another  people: net’s program like facebook, skype etc are very important also because they permit us to communicate with people that we never see; at the same time these programs give us unable to communicate face-to-face or maybe we are not understood by others.

So face to face conversations are very  important because they give us the possibility of a better language and to fight our shyness and fears.
We must get used to meet ourselves, and to speak face-to-face rather than speak with the telephone for example and we must not close to ourselves.
Finally, I think it’s right to use modern types of communication but we must not exaggerate because they can create to us a “mental harms”, so that we will live in a clean society.

Communication... New ways of communicating

What is the characteristic that differs man from animals?

The language!
The ability to articulate a  speech, to give life to our thoughts, through the voice, writing or gestures!
It is impossible to imagine living in a world in which men is no longer able to express themselves.
But it is good to say that respect to past, ways of communicating are totally changed.
When, still writing was not invented all the knowledge was transmitted orally, but also with the appearance of writing, the importance of oral
communication between people had never failed!

This until today!

In fact, communication between people in the real world, it's not longer as in the past! The relationships are transfered in the large and global virtual world offered to us especially from Internet.
This event has both negative and positive aspects:

Negative aspects:

·       The society becomes more and more individual and solitary
·       People find more and more difficult to express themselves in real life when they are faced with a person, but they  have no problem when chatting or  sharing their ideas on blogs, pages or forums.
·       We turn to the global network is when we have problems, and we require less help or comfort of friends!
·       Missing not only verbal communication but also gestures, it's often the body language that best expresses the personality, so if this fails, missing a part of ourselves.
·       Not all the people we meet on the network can be described as "good people"!

Positive aspects:

·       On the Internet we can find all the information we need
·       We can know the news from around the world in real time
·      We can keep in touch with people far away
·  We  can communicate more quickly

A Fairytale Wedding!!!

The wedding of the century,  that's how  the wonderful marriage between William and Kate has been defined, it was followed  live by  about 2 billion people on TV  and on the Internet. It has become the global marriage that has won the front pages of newspapers around the world!

The union that was celebrated on April 29 made the world dream because, as in fairy tales, the prince fell in love with an ordinary girl!

In fact, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis is second in line of succession to the throne of the United Kingdom as nephew of the Queen Elizabeth II, and first son of Charles, Prince of Wales and the dead Diana, Princess of Wales, and he met and fell in love with Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, called Kate, who was his fellow students at St. Andrew's University.
William and Kate were declared husband and wife by the Archbishop of Canterbury, spiritual leader of the Church of England. In front of 1900 guests including heads of state and also different dictators.
On the altar before the ceremony, William said to Kate, making her smile, "I love you, you look beautiful".

The ceremony was held according to the wishes of the Prince in a manner very similar to that which saw protagonists his parents, that's because he was deeply attached to his mother and in this way he could pay homage to lady D.

William and Kate were married following an ancient tradition but they represent a new and modern face of the monarchy. For example they have left Buckingham Palace in a convertible with the license plate
" Just Wed "!!!
The royal wedding ended with a party at night  in Buckingham Palace, where 300 people were invited.

The wedding clothes

                                             GOSSIP!

As we can see, this image reminds us of Grace Kelly, and of the dress that she wore in 1956, when she married the Prince of Monaco: lace bodice with long sleevers that let glimpse her (decolté) and her arms. She wore a long skirt too with a long tail! Moreover Kelly had in her hairs the tiara
lent by Elisabeth II.

In one of the best moments of the marriage, the emotion betrayed William and he was in trouble to put the ring to Kate finger!! The ring seemed to be too tight and it took a few seconds to insert it!

The royal wedding ended with a party at night  in Buckingham The real star of the marriage of William and Kate was Pippa Middleton.
The spotlights on the new Duchess of Cambridge Kate seem to have turned off to make room for her sister. About her beauty, Pippa certainly can not compete with the new Duchess of Cambridge.

Pippa enjoys an excellent reputation : in fact it is said that she is obsessed by the success, always looking for engaged couples, and undisputed star of the party. If the princess until April 28 was dubbed by the British press “Waity Katie” , her sister was already thePerfect Pippa.

Keep calm, we can still marry Prince Harry!!!!!!

Madrid, Unforgettable!!!!!

Hi! As you say, we took a wonderful trip to Madrid and now we want to show you our itinerary and the most amusing moments of our trip! :)

The royal palace

We had to meet in Jerzu at 3 o'clock on Tuesday 29th March and immediately we went to the Alghero Airoport because we had to catch the plane at 9 o'clock!
So we arrived in Madrid two hours after: we travelled by night and we could see how much this city was wonderful!

The train station of Atocha
On Wednesday (as every morning and every evening) we ate at the restaurant near to our hotel and, after a big breakfast, we went to visit the Santa Cruz's church, the train station of Atocha, the Reina Sofia museum (where there is "Guernica", a Picasso's picture) and finally "Plaza mayor".

Guernica

Plaza Mayor

Plaza de Cibeles

On Thursday, we had breakfast and
we visited the "Thyssen-Bohermisza museum" and then "Plaza de Cibeles". In the afternoom we went to the Royal palace, that was so fantastic and massive!   This was the day when we ate a "tortillas de patatas" , a spanish dish.  Finally, after the dinner, we went to a place near to our hotel.

Thyssen-Bornemisza

Prado museum
On Friday: the trip was almost over, but we were missing to visit many more things! So with the little strenght that still remaines us, we ventured to the discovery of the Academy of San Ferdinando and to the visit of Prado museum! During the same morning we went to Hard Rock museum, and walking into the city we arrived to the "Puerta del sol "square, where there is  the statue of the bear that is the symbol of Madrid!

Puerta del Sol

On Saturday the time to leave has already arrived! We spent the last morning to visit "Plaza de España" and to do shopping! Then we went back to the restaurant where we could taste the typical delicious dish of Spain, the "Paella"! Finally we went to the airoport where we had to do acrobatics to put all our purchases in small suitcases! Then we caught the plane to go back to Sardinia!

Our emotions:

GIO:
I think that it was one of the best trip that I took in my life, also because I was with my schoolmates and it was so amusing!  The city was wonderful and in terms of art the churches were fantastic!
I was so excited to go to Madrid and now I can say to be so happy and proud to have visited it. I think that  I will not forget this trip and  I hope to visited others cities wonderful like Madrid!

GIU:
Madrid! Wonderful and unforgettable experience! For me it is not the first time that I take a plane and I go abroad, but I believe that every trip is always special and different from the previous one!
This school trip has been the funniest school trip that I've ever done, because people around me were fantastic!  In fact I want to thank my classmates and my teacherss that were very patient, without which there would be been this!!! I will always remember this trip! And the many pictures that we have made , they will help me to fix this trip in my memory forever !
I miss Madrid, with its perennial vitality both day and night! I miss walking in the evening the streets lit and full of people! I want to return to Madrid!

Nobel Peace Prize 1993-1994

1993

 Nelson Mandela
Born: 18 July 1918, Mvezo, South Africa

Prize motivation: for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa.
Role: President of South Africa after the end of Apartheid.

Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 “for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa".

They are almost  twenty one years since February 1990 when Nelson Mandela was released from prison and in the first page of the South African newspapers there was the image of his handshake with Frederik de Klerk. We must take into consideration these two great men for their courage and for their work for the peaceful resolution of the apartheid regime and also for creating of a new democratic South Africa.

"Dignified work is not only related to the right to survive but also to thrive and have a satisfactory life. This right must be accessible to all"

Mandela with this words wanted to say that the  dignified  work is founded on the search of personal dignity, in the presence of democracies that are working in favor of  achievement of economic growth that increases the opportunities  of productive jobs and enterprise development. In addition, the dignified  work supports that the purpose of wellbeing  is to eliminate poverty. So we must commit ourselves to make these things!

Prize motivation: "for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East"
Role:Prime Minister of Israel
Field: Negotiation

In  1895 Alfred Nobel wrote that the Peace Prize could be awarded to the person who, in the preceding year << Shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations >>.

On the basis of this statement The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 1994  to Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres  and Yitzhak Rabin, for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East through a political act which demanded great courage by both the parts.
They have made a significant contribution to a historical process through which peace,  collaboration,  fraternity can replace war, hate and the many religious and cultural differences.
The situation in the Middle East
For many years , the conflict between Israel and its neighbors, and between Israelis and Palestinians, has been one of  the most irreconcilable and menacing in international politics. A battle that goes on the formation of the State of Israel that  was established at the end of World War II. The State was created with the intention to donate to the Jews, persecuted and exterminated by the Nazi madness, a homeland, so that the Jews wont be longer forced into the Diaspora.  But the new state has never been recognized by the Palestinians.  The differences between Israelis and Palestinians have always been prominent, not only the religious differences, but especially economic. This led to the particular dynamics in the frequent and incessant fighting, Israel is a rich country using a well-equipped and trained army, while the Palestine lashes out at him, his most fanatical suicide bombers.
Unfortunately, despite the hard work of these three major characters that were able to reach a short period of peace between their countries,  still today the Palestinian situation is not resolved.
